Coalition condemns attack on Rivers council secretariats

The Rivers State Youths Leaders Coalition, RSEYLC, has condemned the attacks on local council secretariats across the state following the outcome of the Saturday, October 5, 2024 local council elections in the state.

Recall that suspected political thugs on Monday attacked council secretariats in Rivers State in an attempt to stall the inauguration of the various councils’ legislative assembly.

Reacting to the development, Chairman of the Rivers State Ethnic Youth Leaders Coalition, Legborsi Yamaabana condemned the attacks, describing the situation as unfortunate.

He called on President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to spare no sacred cow and ensure that the perpetrators of the crimes are apprehended and made to face the consequences of their actions.

“It’s quite unfortunate to see people destroy their own state because of one man’s greed whom no member of his nuclear or extended family is part of. This is the height of political thuggery and rascality which the Nigerian authority led by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu must show integrity by bringing to book those behind this dastardly acts including their sponsors,” he said.

Yamaabana, expressed shock at the revelations of Governor Siminalayi Fubara that he has done everything possible for the restoration of tranquility in the state including begging the former governor and current FCT Minister, Nyesom Ezenwo Wike.

He alleged that the FCT Minister and his supporters wants to turn the state from the “nation’s treasure base to the nation’s pressure base,”
warning that any further denigration of the person and office of the Governor of Rivers State to such low extent will be vehemently resisted by Rivers youths.

“We are ready to take our state back. How can a governor express such level of meekness to the point of kneeling down to beg and yet you are not satisfied? Any further denigration of the person or office of the State number one citizen will not be treated with kid gloves by Rivers youths and people,” Yamaabana warned.

He used the medium to congratulate the LGA chairmen and councillors admonishing them to ensure that the welfare of Rivers people takes the centre stage of their administration.
