Panel summons Nwanosike, Ollormate, Eke, others over burning of Rivers LG councils

The Rivers State Judicial Commission of Inquiry into the burning and destruction of local government council secretariats in Rivers have summoned 106 persons to appear before it in connection with the incident.

Chairman of the Commission, Justice Ibiwengi Minakiri gave the summon in a statement made available to journalists in Port Harcourt.

Prominent among those summoned are Samuel Nwanosike, Obarillomate Ollor, Ben Eke, Hope Ikiriko- all former chairmen and loyalists of Nyesom Wike.

Recall that violence had sparked-off in the state following the conduct of the October 5 local council polls leading to burning and destruction of some councils.

Governor Siminalayi Fubara, thereafter on October 8 constituted a commission of inquiry to unravel those behind the destructions.

Earlier last week, the Commission visited Emohua, Khana, Obio/Akpor, Eleme and Ikwerre councils to assess the level of damage done to the secretariats.

During the visit, the chairman, Justice Ibiwengi Minakiri lamented the destruction but however, promised to be fair to all parties in the discharge of their duties.

According to the timetable of sitting released by the probe panel, 30th – 31st  October is for Ikwerre LGA, 1st , 4th -5th November for Eleme while November 6 is for Khana, Ahoada East and Abua/Odual LGAs.

The statement also said people from Emohua would appear on November 7 while Obio /Akpor and Ahoada West is fixed for  November 8.

It also said that November 11-12 is for spill overs from the other sitting days.

The statement urged all those invited to honour the invitation warning that, “Therefore, do not fail, as it may be at your peril.  You are required to bring with you any evidence to establish your case”.
