The Khana Local Government Council is partnering with the Rivers State Emergency Medical Services and Ambulance System (REMSAS) for an improved access to critical healthcare for mothers and children.
The collaboration aims to reduce maternal and infant mortality rates by providing timely and efficient medical response.
While receiving the management team of REMSAS led by its Director, Dr. Sylvanus Ojum at the Khana local government council secretariat in Bori, Martins Nwigbo, Chairman of Khana LGA who was represented by Dr. Henry Kpunee, thr Secretary of Council, expressed gratitude to Governor Siminalayi Fubara for making the initiative possible, emphasizing the critical role of the program in reducing mortality rate.
“The accessibility of REMSAS services will save lives and empower mothers and children in our community.
“This partnership marks a significant milestone in our commitment to improving the well-being of our people,” he said.
Nwigbo desrcibed the scheme as a game-changer in the healthcare system in Khana, restating the Council’s commitment to ensuring effective utilization of the resources for the intended purposes.
Handing over the equipment, Dr. Ojum highlighted the program’s focus on supporting pregnant women and children, emphasizing the agency’s dedication to providing swift and effective emergency medical services to the needy.
He urged respective councillors to encourage their constituents to take advantage of the program in their wards, noting that the service comes with a free treatment window for the first 48 hours.
Among the things donated are ambulance vehicles and other emergency medical equipments.
