NYCOP suspends Nwibani, appoints acting president

National Executive Council of the National Youth Council of Ogoni People, NYCOP, has suspended its president, Comrade Raymond Nwibani for alleged financial impropriety.

In his place, the National Secretary, Comrade Naade Naade Burale Good luck, has been appointed to act as president.

Also suspended is Comrade Samuel Chu Owinkpe, the National Vice President.

The suspension was contained in a communique issued at the end an emergency meeting held in Port Harcourt by the NEC which comprised National Officers and the Kingdom Coordinators.

The communique which was read on their behalf by the National Public Relations Officer, Comrade Nwikeigha Saro, said Nwibani’s suspension followed a petition by the National Financial Secretary Comrade Lenee Eedee Bright dated 18th November , 2024, wherein he accused Nwibani of alleged financial mismanagement.

He said the suspension is to allow for a thorough investigation into the matter while a disciplinary committee headed by John Sarowinyor as chairman, Nwiekegha Saro and Eduma Vincent Lebari as members has been set up to investigate the matter.

NYCOP warned members of the public not to have any dealing with the duo in the name of the association.

“In view of the above allegations against Raymond Nwibani Marcus and Samuel Chu Owinkpe, they are therefore suspended from acting as President and Vice President of NYCOP, and further directed that the Secretary, Comr. Naade Naade Burale Goodluck acts as the President of NYCOP pending the conclusion of investigation of the said allegation against them.

“The general public and critical stakeholders are hereby put on notice of this development and should not have any dealings whatsoever with them in the name of NYCOP.

“The NYCOP decision to suspend this members reflects our commitments to upholding the value and principles of the Ogoni struggle,” the communique said.

Also, the group passed a vote of confidence on the Professor Olu Andah Wai-Ogosu leadership of the Movement For The Survival of Ogoni People, MOSOP, assuring that NYCOP will continue to promote peace and development in Ogoniland inline with the Ogoni Bill of Rights (OBR) and through collaborative actions.
