Gokana chairman procures operational vehicles for security agencies, marks 100-days in office

As part of efforts aimed at ensuring maximum security of lives and property in Gokana local council in Rivers State, the authorities of the area have donated four operational vehicles to the various Commands of the security agencies operating in the area.

Those who benefitted from the council’s gesture are the Nigerian Police Force, Nigerian Army and the Federal Road Safety Corps commands in the council.

Chairman of Gokana Council, Chief Monday Dumiye while presenting the security vehicles to the various agencies as part of activities marking his one hundred days in office, noted that the donation was in keeping with his promise of promoting peaceful coexistence in the council area.

He recalled that upon assumption of office as chairman of the council,
he embarked assessment of the operational challenges faced by the various security agencies in the area with a commitment to remedying the situation for the sustenance of peace and security of lives and properties in the area.

The council boss assured that his administration will continue to partner all stakeholders and security agencies in promoting peace in the council area.

He said: “Today, we are here to officially flag-off our first 100 days in office with the inauguration/handover of security vehicles purchased by my administration for use by the police and other security agencies in Gokana,” adding that, “This is just the first step, as my administration shall continue to work closely and robustly with the police and other security agencies towards making Gokana a peaceful place to live, work and invest”.

The council chairman also disclosed that he had earlier procured an electric transformer for the Octopus Unit in the area to enhance their operations, assuring that he would do more to sustain the peace in the area.

Dumiye, listed other projects embarked upon in his first one hundred days in office to include restoration of electricity in Gokana, building and remodelling of several schools, provision of solar street lights and clearing of backlog of salaries of council workers amongst others.

He however, gave kudos to the state governor, Siminalayi Fubara for his support and for giving council chairmen a free-hand to perform their duties.

While inaugurating the project, the Rivers State Commissioner of Police, CP Olugbenga Adepoju who was represented by the Area Commander of Bori Area Command, ACP Issa Ali Gumel, expressed delight at the donation and assured that the police will make maximum use of the vehicle to fight crime in the council.

He said: “Onbehalf of the Command, I therefore express my gratitude to the chairman and entire people of Gokana LGA for this donation. Be assured that the dividends of the confidence you have in the police through this donations will be felt in every nook and cranny of the LGA through effective and relentless police patrol as well as quick and uninterrupted responses to any distress calls using the vehicles”.

CP Adepoju noted that the donation serves to reassure the people of the full backing of the police and other security agencies that have also benefitted from gesture, that their security is topmost priority to the council chairman and the relevant stakeholders.

In their solidarity speeches, Leader of Simplified Movement in Gokana, Dr. Friday Beema, Secretary of PDP in Rivers State, Dr. Field Nkor and a former secretary to Rivers State Government, Dr. Gabriel Pidomson all commended the council chairmen for his effort at ensuring that lives are protected in Gokana and for the numerous projects he has embarked upon within just three months of being in office.

Port Harcourt Spectator reports that some of the projects embarked upon by the chairman are renovation/remodeling of Community Primary School 4, Bodo City, renovation/remodeling of Community Primary School 1, Biara, renovation/remodeling of Community Primary School, Lewe, renovation/remodeling of Community Primary School 1, K-Dere.

Others are; renovation/remodeling of office complex housing the Nigeria Security & Civil Defence Corps, and Nigeria Immigration Service, renovation/remodeling of the NULGE Administrative Block, located inside the Gokana Council Secretariat, Kpor, installation of solar-powered street lights on major roads and streets in Gokana spanning across 16 communities in the area, complete rehabilitation of the Gokana Central Stadium, renovation/remodeling of Copers Lodge at Bomu Secondary School.

Also, renovation/remodeling of Community Primary School Bua-Yeghe, renovation/remodeling of Community Primary School Bogor-Yeghe amongst others.
