In a remarkable display of unity and solidarity, the immediate past chairmen of the 23 Local Government Areas in Rivers State on Wednesday, visited the suspended governor of Rivers State, Sir Siminalayi Fubara at his private residence in Port Harcourt.
The former council bosses during the visit, bemoaned the declaration of a state of emergency in Rivers State, while praising Fubara’s outstanding achievements in office.
Speaking on behalf of the group, Ichemati Ezebunwo, the immediate past Chairman of Port Harcourt City Local Government Area (PHALGA), who read a statement jointly signed by the all the ex-chairmen, highlighted Fubara’s numerous pro-people projects, which they said has significantly contributed to the state’s stability and progress.
The chairmen also commended Fubara’s robust relationship with security agencies, which has ensured sustained peace and security in the state.
They expressed disappointment over the declaration of a state of emergency in the state, citing misinformation about Fubara’s compliance with the Supreme Court’s judgment.
“We, the immediate past Local Government Chairmen of Rivers State, stand in unwavering solidarity with Governor Siminalayi Fubara in this trying time.
“We await his directive on the way forward for the peace, progress, and stability of Rivers State,” they said.
The solidarity visit by the 23 former council chsirmen is seen as a significant development in the ongoing political crisis rocking Rivers State, and is expected to further boost the moral of Fubara’s support base as he navigates the challenges around him.
