By: Queen Williams

In a bold display of solidarity and determination, some Rivers State women under the aegis of the Simplified Grassroot Ladies, Akuku-Toru Local Government Area Chapter, have taken to the streets of Abonnema, to condemn the emergency rule declared in the state and the suspension of Governor Siminalayi Fubara and his deputy, Ngozi Odu by President Bola Tinubu.

The women, clad in all-black attire, marched through the streets, carrying placards with powerful messages that echoed their demands for peace, justice, and good governance. Their protest was a testament to the growing discontent among the people of Rivers State, who feel the emergency rule is an assault on democracy.

According to our reporter who monitored the rally, the women marched through the streets of Abonnema to the Abonnema Stadium, chanting slogans and singing songs of solidarity. The women’s protest was also a call to action, urging the federal government to respect the people’s mandate and restore democratic order in the state.

The women’s demands was evident from their placards, which boldly stated; “Respect the People’s Mandate” and “Bring Back Our Governor.”

Prior to the protest, the woman had gathered for their Monthly Prayer Meeting, themed “Arise & Shine” (Isaiah 60:1) as the women came together to seek divine guidance and blessings for their state and local government area.

Leader of the women group, Fyneface Itiekemieba, said they have chosen the path of peace, prayer, and lawful advocacy, despite their frustrations.

“We refuse to be silent when democracy is under attack. We refuse to stand by when our votes, our voices, and our will as citizens are being undermined,” she said.

The women’s demands were clear that they want immediate restoration of democratic order in Rivers State.

They also restated their support for Fubara, citing his commitment to development, peace, and unity, as well as his belief in the role of women in the society.
