Suspected Cultists Kill Police Officer, Vigilante in Rivers

Suspected cultists believed to be members of the Iceland Cult group Monday night, killed two persons, a police officer and a member of OSPAC – a local vigilante outfit at Ahoada East Council in Rivers State.

The assailants according to a police statement was led by one Umegbewe Kinsley and one Opaka.

The police gave the names of the slain security operatives as Corporal Francis Friday, who was on special duty at the Secretariat with the Special Intervention Squad (SIS) and Ngozi Ipah who was a personnel of OSPAC.

Meanwhile, the State Police Command has condemned the attack on the security officials, vowing to bring perpetrators to book.

A statement by the Command’s Public Relations Officer, SP Grace Iringe-Koko, while giving details on the attack said Police patrol teams led by the Divisional Police Officer of Ahoada Division arrived at the scene, but the attackers had already fled, adding that both victims were rushed to the Ahoada General Hospital with multiple gunshot wounds but were pronounced dead on arrival and their bodies deposited at the hospital morgue for autopsy.

She said the Commissioner of Police, CP Olugbenga Adepoju has visited the scene and deployed tactical teams to the area. Adding that he has also directed the Area Commander and DPO to intensify efforts to track down and arrest the perpetrators.

“The CP has vowed that the killers of the police officer and the OSPAC operative will not escape justice,” she said.

Iringe-Koko urged residents to remain calm and cooperative by reporting suspicious individuals or activities to the nearest police station.
