Fubara Cancels N134bn Secretariat Renovation Contract Awarded by Ibas

‎. . . Orders ₦20bn Mobilisation Refund

‎Governor Siminialayi Fubara has ordered the revocation of the ₦134billion contract awarded to China Civil Engineering Construction Company, CCECC, by the administration of Vice Admiral Ibok Ete Ibas (rtd).


‎The governor also ordered the company to refund the ₦20billion mobilisation it received from Ibas.


‎Ibas had few days to the expiration of his rule as sole administrator of the state awarded the contract sparking suspicion as residents questioned the rationale behind his decision with his tenure coming to end.


‎The decision to award the contract was sequel to the visit by the National Assembly Committee on Rivers State of Emergency who condemned the state of the secretariat as unconducive for civil servants.



‎But Fubara at the Rivers State Executive Council Meeting held Thursday, revockdd the contract.


‎Dr Honour Sirawoo, Permanent Secretary of the State Ministry of Information and Communication while briefing journalists alongside other permanent secretaries, and members of the state cabinet on the outcome of the State EXCO Meeting, said the bidding  process for the contract and others advertised in February 2025 was revalidated.




‎The Council  also approved a  6-man committee headed by the Deputy Governor of the State, Prof. Ngozi Odu to evaluate and make recommendations for the construction of Computer-Based Test (CBT) centres across the state to facilitate the conduct of external examinations.


‎In view of the the flooding in parts of the state, the Council  directed the flood committee headed by the Deputy Governor to take immediate action to address the situation and cautioned residents against blocking drainage channels.
