As part of its effort at building capacity of media stakeholders, the Nigerian Content Development and Monitoring Board (NCDMB) Tuesday, commenced the 2025 Media Stakeholders Tour round selected oil and gas facilities in Port Harcourt, capital of Rivers State.
The tour started with a visit to Bunorr Integrated Energy Limited located in Omagwa, Ikwerre Local Government Area of Rivers State.
Bunorr Integrated Energy Limited is an indigenous company pionering the recycling of Used Engine Oil (UEO) and turning it into base oil other by-products.
Speaking shortly after conducting journalists round the facility, Managing Director of Bunorr Integrated Energy Limited, Mr. Okeke Modestus said the company’s operations directly supports Nigeria’s commitment to energy circularity, environmental sustainability, local content development and import substitution.
He explained that in the last six months the plant has been able to commence commercial operations after being shut for about two years. He noted that the plant has the capacity to produce 36,000 metric tones of base oil per day.
Okeke acknowledged that the company’s recent progress has been significantly driven by NCDMB’s support, oversight, and strategic partnership, noting that the Board’s backing strengthened the company’s credibility with vendors, financiers, and technical partners.
”NCDMB’s periodic engagements helped us improve our operational standards, enhance safety culture, and adopt best practices in the recycling and lubricant recovery industry.
” NCDMB’s push for automation, safety and modern process control accelerated our adoption of new technologies such as SCADS and digital monitoring, ” he stated.
He however said the company’s operation is challenged by paucity of raw materials (Used Engine Oil) and lack of electricity to power its plant.
Okeke also suggested the enactment of legislation to ban the indiscriminate disposal of UEO in the country.
In his remarks, Mr Teddy Bai, Supervisor, Government Relations, NCDMB, who led the tour reaffirmed the Board’s support for local capacity building.
He restated the Board’s commitment to partnering with thebcompany in amplifying its visibility.
Bai urged the media to drive the narrative of recycling of used engine oil as against the practice of indiscriminate disposal which pollutes the environment.
”Let me also say that pollution is not what our brothers do alone in the creek. Those of us who have four to five cars, we service our cars every month and we waste that used oil, we are also polluting our environment. Also that used oil can generate money for us, so I think the media should also drive that on behalf of this company and NCDMB, ” he stated.
He commended the standard of the facility and noted that it meets the Board’s standard.
”Like you have heard from the managing director of the company, what we have here is world class regardless of the location and that’s what NCDMB also stands for, ” he maintained.
