Following the footsteps of the Association of Local Governments of Nigeria (ALGON), Rivers State chapter, which endorsed President Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu for the 2027 presidential election, Chairman of Khana Local Government Area, Dr. Thomas Bariere and all 19 councillors of the area have also endorsed the president for a second tenure.
Bariere also thanked the President for what he described as historic interventions in Ogoni land.
Speaking at meeting held recently, Dr. Bariere recalled that the Ogoni people had endured over three decades of advocacy and protests following the unjust killing of the Ogoni Nine. He noted that successive administrations failed to address the demands for justice in any meaningful manner.
He stated that President Tinubu, within his first year in office, granted a posthumous pardon to the Ogoni Nine and initiated tangible steps toward resolving long-standing grievances.
Bariere further commended the President for establishing the Federal University of Environment in Ogoni land and appointing Ogoni sons into positions of trust.
“These actions have brought a sense of justice, recognition, and hope to our people after so many years,” the Chairman said, adding that the people of Khana Local Government Area remain profoundly grateful.
Dr. Bariere reaffirmed that the people of Khana in Rivers State are fully committed to supporting President Tinubu’s re-election bid in 2027.
