Fubara Has Employed  9,500 Workers Since Assumption of Office- Sirawoo

The Rivers State Government under Governor Siminalayi Fubara has employed about 9,500 workers across key sectors since the administration assumed office in 2023,

‎This was disclosed by the Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Information and Communications, Dr. Honour Sirawoo, following the approval by the Rivers State Executive Council for the recruitment of 5,000 teachers to boost service delivery in the education sector.

‎Sirawoo said the approval was granted at the second Executive Council meeting of 2026, presided over by Governor Fubara on Tuesday at the Government House, Port Harcourt.

‎Briefing journalists after the meeting,  Sirawoo said the newly approved recruitment is strategically targeted at improving the quality of education across the state.

‎According to him, 3,000 of the teachers will be deployed to basic and primary schools, while 2,000 will be assigned to post-primary institutions.

‎He explained that the 5,000 new teachers brings the total number of employments carried out by the Fubara administration to approximately 9,500 since it assumed office in 2023.

‎Sirawoo recalled that earlier recruitment exercises under the administration included 2,000 personnel for the health sector, 1,500 staff for Ignatius Ajuru University of Education, and 1,000 workers for the Universal Basic Education programme, among others.

‎The Permanent Secretary emphasised that the administration remains committed to merit-based recruitment, assuring that the process for employing the newly approved teachers would be transparent and strictly guided to ensure that only qualified candidates are selected.

‎He added that while the government continues to expand its workforce, it is focused on delivering tangible services to the people rather than engaging in unnecessary publicity, noting that the recruitments reflect the administration’s quiet but deliberate approach to governance.
