A non-governmental Organisation, Drug Free World Africa ( DFWA) have commended the Nigerian Army for its decision to investigate allegations of military protection of drug peddlers in parts of Nigeria.
Speaking to journalist in Port Harcourt, the Country representative, Drug Free World Africa, Dr Lina Okereke said that such decisive step reflects professionalism, accountability, and a strong commitment to safeguarding national security and public trust.
The organization ( DFWA) applauds the Nigerian Army for choosing transparency and internal discipline, sending a clear message that the fight against drugs must be uncompromising and free of institutional protection.
According to her, drug abuse remains one of the gravest threats to society, destroying lives, fueling crime, insecurity, mental illness, physical and psychological dependence, strained relationships and undermining community development.
She noted that any attempt, real or perceived to shield drug traffickers weakens the collective fight against this menace and endangers the future of young people and the nation at large.
The country representative adviced parents to help the government by educating their children on the consequences of taking hard drugs.
”The organization reaffirms its consistent advocacy for a drug-free environment through sustained public education, grassroots sensitization, and stakeholder engagement, ” she said.
For Drug Free World Africa, prevention, awareness, and integrity remain critical tools in the fight against drug abuse.
She called on security agencies, community leaders, stakeholders and parents to strengthen collaboration in ensuring a drug-free, safe, and healthy society for all Nigerians.
