Cancer Research Team Visits Khana as Bariere Urges Focus on Critical Health Priorities

‎A team from the International Agency For  Research on Cancer in collaboration with  the Hydrocarbon Pollution Remediation Project (HYPREP) has visited the Khana Local Government Area in Rivers State.

‎IACR  Team Lead, Prof Kakulu during the visit disclosed that their mission is to carryout a study on cancer tendencies in Ogoniland due severe decades of exposure to hydrocarbon. He said the proposed study will adopt a community-based approach, emphasizing collaboration with traditional rulers to ensure effective sensitization and active participation of rural dwellers.

‎Representing the Council Chairman, Dr. Bariere Thomas, his vice,  Mrs. Nugbenekpugi Ibrahim, urged traditional rulers and community leaders to accord the team maximum cooperation. She reaffirmed the Council’s commitment to partnering with HYPREP to ensure successful execution of the research initiative.

‎In his remarks, Mene Apere Barikpoa, representing His Royal Highness King Suanu T.Y. Baridam, assured the delegation of the full support of community leaders. He stressed that the outcome of the research should guide strategic health planning and targeted interventions that will directly benefit the people of Khana.
