Abe vows to reject Tonye Cole’s name as Rivers APC candidate

The senator representing Rivers South-East senatorial district at the national assembly, Magnus Abe, has said he will not accept any decision by the All Progressives Congress, APC, to list the name Arch. Tonye Cole as the party’s governorship candidate in River State.

Abe who is the governorship candidate of a faction of the party in state stated this when he appeared on Silverbed TV’s Newshub on Wednesday.

He  said that a lot of people do not have the fact as concerns the decision of the Appeal Court to stay execution of the ruling of justice JK Omotosho of the Federal High Court which barred the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, from recognizing candidates of the APC for the gubernatorial, national and state assembly elections in Rivers State.

The lawmaker said that INEC acted on an order which specifically said that the names of Tonye Cole and other candidates should not be recognized for the elections, adding that the only way to reverse the order is for the Appeal Court to also issue another order mandating INEC to recognise their names which the court did not do.

He said that people are trying to misrepresent fact and say something that the court of appeal did not say.

Meanwhile, the hearing of the appeal by both factions of the party kicked off today at the Appeal Court in Port Harcourt.
