RIWAMA Sole issues 48-hour ultimatum to road sweepers, service providers to clear zones of wastes

By: Admin

Sole Administrator of Rivers State Waste Management Agency, RIWAMA, Bro Felix Obuah has directed all road sweepers and service providers to ensure that their zones are cleared of all wastes and kept clean within 48 hours or have their jobs terminated with immediate effect.

Obuah in a statement issued by his media aide, Jerry Needam, particularly directed road sweepers and service providers working in the following zones:

Aba Road, Ikwerre Road, NTA Road, Ada-George Road, Agip Road, Stadium Road, Rumuigbo Road, Rumuomasi Road, Rumuokwuta Road, Rumudara Road, Slaughter/YKC Road, Aggrey Road, Elelenwo Road, Odili Road among others.

The RIWAMA Sole Administrator expressed dismay that sweepers working on the affected areas seem to have made it a habit to sweep and dump sand on the median of the road, which is conducive for weeds to grow on the median and which in turn help to deface the environment.

He said the sweepers should endeavour to see that all wastes are properly disposed off at the designated receptacles only and not on the median.

Obuah appealed to the service providers and road sweepers to also ensure that all zones within Port Harcourt, the state capital and its environs are cleared of wastes before 7am daily.

He also warned against keeping the zones dirty on flimsy excuses of breakdown of trucks by service providers.

The RIWAMA boss said in the event of any breakdown of trucks, service providers should hire trucks to clear the wastes daily rather than wait for the repairs of such trucks before cleaning the affected areas.

The Agency he said, will no longer tolerate any excuse of breakdown of trucks, by any service provider and ensure that their zones are clean every day before 7am or have jobs terminated without reference to them.
