Sequel to the alleged killing of one Eze Wali in the Farm Road area of Iguruta Ali in Ikwerre Local Government Area of Rivers State on Monday, and the declaration of Governor Nyesom Wike that OSPAC, the Ogba/Egbema/Ndoni localized security outfit is overstepping its boundary, the outfit has been banned from operating anywhere else except its local government of origin.
Chairman of ONELGA, Victor Odili gave the order.
Wali, a tipper driver was accused of being a cultist by the security outfit whose personnel stormed the area in search of cultists but his relatives disagree.
According to a brother of the deceased, George Wali, “OSPAC entered our farm road residence and saw Wali sitting in front of his house. They asked him to follow them but he refused, telling them that he was the landlord.
“They tried to force him but he refused. They shot him and arrested two other persons but abandoned them at Airport roundabout and fled”
But due to the bad name that has trailed the security outfit in recent days, Odili banned the operations of the Local Government’s Vigilante Group, OSPAC, outside the Local Government Area.
Odili said the essence of the ban was to allow for full concentration of OSPAC’s personnel in curbing crime and criminality in ONELGA.
He said the extension of their services to other areas might lead to distraction and collapse of the system.
He warned that any OSPAC personnel seen operating outside the Local Government Area shall be arrested and handed over to the Police for prosecution.
He commended the efforts of the outfit in restoring peace in ONELGA and however reaffirmed the decision of his administration to always support OSPAC.
