CP orders manhunt for abductors of Rivers monarch

…As EJA calls for his unconditional release

The Rivers State Commissioner of Police, Usman Belel, has ordered a search and manhunt for the abductors of the Paramount Ruler of Omofo, Rundele in Emohua Local Government Area , Eze Edison Omeodu.

The traditional ruler was abducted Thursday evening by unknown gunmen  along the Evekwu axis of the East West road while returning from a peace meeting at Rumuji.

The police public relation officer, DSP Nnamdi Omoni, who confirmed the incident said the Rundele monarch was abducted and taken into the bush in the area.

He said the monarch’s driver and the car has been recovered.

He said: “Consequent to the above incident, CP Usman Belel, has given a marching order to the Commanders of the Tactical Units to put necessary machinery in place to ensure his timely release.

” The CP wishes to appeal to all and sundry to remain calm and trust in the ability of the police to ensure that the Traditional Ruler is released within record time”

Meanwhile, Emolga Journalists Association ,EJA, umbrella body of all practicing Journalists in Emohua Local Government Area of Rivers State has condemned the abduction of Eze Omeodu.

Chairman of the Association, Kenedy Wedeh Jnr in a statement issued by the Public Relations Officer, Emmanuel Ovundah Nlewedum called for immediate and unconditional release of the monarch.

The statement described the abducted monarch  as a promoter of peace and security in not only his domain but the clan and beyond.

EJA however called on the state and local government to work with security agencies to secure his immediate release.

While calling on youths of the area to assist the government and security agencies with veritable information that would lead to release of the monarch the group also advised the people to embrace peace and join hands to end kidnapping, cultism and all crime related activities in Emohua LGA.

At the time of this report, no demand for ransom has been made as his abductors are yet to reach his family.
