Rivers Government approves N30,000 New Minimum Wage

The governor of Rivers state, Nyesom Wike, has approved the payment of the new minimum wage of N30,000 for civil servants in the state with the consequential salary adjustments as approved by the Federal Government.

The Rivers state Commissioner for information and communications, Mr. Paulinus Nsirim, in a statement, said payment of the new minimum wage is effective immediately.

Rivers state becomes the sixth state in Nigeria to implement the 30,000 minimum wage for their workers. The other states include; Lagos state, Kaduna state, Jigawa state, Adamawa and Kebbi state.

Before now, the chairperson of the Nigeria Labour Congress, NLC, in the state, Beatrice Itubo had said there was an ungoing negotiation between the government and organized labour in the state on the consequential adjustments to salaries.
