… As Wike leads taskforce

As the pandemic coronavirus continues to ravage parts of the country, the Rivers State Government has closed down the popular Oil Mill Market along the Port-Aba Expressway with effect from Wednesday, March 25, 2020.
The weekly market sees convergence of traders from neighbouring Abia and is one of the biggest daily markets in the state.
The state government in a statement by the commissioner for information, Paulinus Nsirim said anyone found trading in the market will be arrested by security agents.
Though the state is yet to record a single case, Governor Nyesom Wike has been announcing drastic measures in a bid to curtail the spread of the virus.
Meanwhile, Governor Nyesom Wike has set up a 12-man Task Force on the enforcement of the ban on public gatherings and places of worship.
The Task Force is headed by the governor himself while other members include: The Commissioner of Police, Mustapha DanDaura; Garrison Commander, 6 Division of the Nigerian Army; Air Force Commander; Naval Commander.
Others are the State Director, Department of State Services; State Commandant, Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps; Secretary to the State Government; Attorney-General and Commissioner for Justice; Chief of Staff, Government House; Commissioner for Health, while the Commissioner for Information and Communication will serve as secretary.
