By: Emmanuel Nlewedum

The Rivers State University has donated cartons of alcohol based hand sanitizers to support the Rivers State Government’s fight against the spread of coronavirus in the state.

Vice Chancellor of the University, Prof Nlerum Okogbule who led a delegation of management of the institution while presenting the items said the sanitizers were produced by the department of Chemistry in the University.

He commended the Wike led government on steps taken so far to contain the spread of the Covid-19 in the state.

According to the VC, “we have come to lend our little support to the Rivers State government in the fight against coronavirus.

“We donated 120 cartons of hand sanitizers comprising of 100mls, 200mls and 500mls bottles. The hand sanitizers were produced by the Chemistry Department, Faculty of Sciences in our university and it’s quite commendable”, he said.

Receiving the sanitizers on behalf of the government, the State Commissioner for Health, Prof. Princewill Chike thanked the institution for its support and commended them for the production of the sanitizers.

The Commissioner said the state government is very committed in the health security of Rivers people.

He also promised to partner with the university.

“It’s a noble achievement. I respect the Chemistry department that made this possible. I also respect the University. I am proud of Rivers state university.

“It also tells that entrepreneurs and well meaning individuals should encourage Rivers State University to produce more of these sanitizers so that the war against covid-19 would be successfully achieved.

“We will flood Rivers State with their sanitizers. We have been bringing in sanitizers from outside the state and it has been costing us a lot.

“And this gesture, we will see how we can partner with the university to make things easier for us, instead of going outside to get  sanitizers”, the Health Commissioner said.
