Police arrest local vigilante members for manslaughter

By: Felix Ikpotor

Officers of the Rivers State Police Command have arrested three members of a local vigilante group, the Rumuolumeni Security Planning and Advisory Committee, ROSPAC, for assault on one Clifford Woko.

Operatives of the command invaded the office of ROSPAC at Nkpor village, Rumuolumeni in Obio/Akpor Local Government Area of the state and arrested the trio.

Woko had alleged that he was assaulted by the ROSPAC members for his refusal to pay ‘matching ground fee’ on the construction site that was in his care.

He later reported the attack to the Human Rights Desk at the Rivers State Police Command Headquarters which invited the ROSPAC members on three occasions but they declined to honour invitations.

Nnamdi Omoni, the Public Relations Officer of the State Police Command while confirming the arrest said the suspects were arrested over a report of manslaughter against them.

He said police operatives went to their office and arrested three of them, while others ran away.
