NYCN Coordinator calls on Rivers youths to prepare for congress

By: Felix Ikpotor

Coordinator of the National Youth Council of Nigeria, NYCN, Tai Local Government Area of  Rivers State, Comrade Kingsley Dimkpa has called on youths in the state to prepare to participate in elective congress of the body.

Dimkpa who stated this in a statement sent to PHSpectator noted that the state council of the NYCN last had its elective congress in 2015 with the emergence of Ambassador Sukubu Sara-Igbe as chairman and Chijioke Ihunwo as deputy chairman amongst others.

He stressed that the tenure of the last EXCO expired since 2019 and as such the body is due for another elective congress.

While urging youths of the state to prepare for the congress, the youth leader dismissed statements credited to Mr Chijioke Ihunwo, the State Chairman of NYCN who had insisted that the council was not ready for any congress in the state.

Dimkpa insisted that the tenure of Ihunwo who automatically became chairman following the election of Sukubu as National President of NYCN  has expired and as such cannot continue to hold office.

He noted that a similar case happened in Katsina, Nasarawa and Sokoto states and had all been resolved.

The coordinator noted that already, the National Secretariat of the NYCN has written to the governor of the state and all security agencies of its intention to conduct congresses in the state in the month of February.

A copy of the letter sighted by PHSpectator and signed by Barrister Abubakar Suleiman described those parading themselves as leaders of the state executive of the body as illegal.
