Rivers council polls: Ogoni youths urge PDP to maintain zoning formula

By: Felix Ikpotor

As parties continue in preparation for the April  17 date for local council polls in Rivers State, youths in Ogoni  has called on the ruling Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, to respect the zoning arrangement in the area.

President General of Ogoni Youth Federation, Legorsi Yamaabana who stated this in a statement said credible intelligence available to them reveals that political actors in Khana Local Government Area are trying to conspire against the return of the incumbent Chairman of Khana Local Government Area, Chief  Lahteh Lah Loolo, and are trying to re-direct the PDP chairmanship ticket to Ken-Khana District of the area.

He added: “Consequently, we want to categorically place it on record that since the return of the current democractic dispensation in 1999, that Ken-Khana District has produced 2 LGA Chairmen within 9 years, with Hon. Kingsley Leh serving for 3 years and Hon. Gregory Bariledum Nwidam serving for 6 years, while NyoKhana District has produced 2 LGA Chairmen, with Hon. Alabi Korsi serving for 3 years, and the incumbent for 3 years(6 years)”.

“We implore  Governor Nyesom Ezenwo Wike and members of the People’s Democratic Party not to sit back and watch Khana been thrown into another round of avoidable crisis because of zoning the PDP ticket for Khana chairmanship ticket to Ken-Khana as indicated”.

“We frown at Khana politicians who are bent on removing the incumbent Chairman for untold reasons and at the same are twisting the hand of equity to deny the Babbe/Bori people of political justice. We therefore state withoout equivocation that they lack the moral justification to demand for the Governor of “Rivers State in the next elections if they cannot do justice at home on the simple matter of Chairmanship.

We are calling on all  Khana sons and daughters at home and in diaspora, Ogoni people at large and men of goodwill to stand up for political justice to ensure that the current zoning arrangement in  Khana is maintained”.

“We believe that the Governor and the leadership of the Peoples Democratic Party in the state shall swiftly look into this matter to avoid further carnage in Khana”.
