The Rivers State Ethnic Youth Leaders Coalition (RSEYLC), an almagamation of indigenous youth leaders and youth groups in Rivers State has threw its weight behind the position of the Southern Governors Forum, insisting that in 2023 power should return to the South.
Recall that Northern governors’ forum during their meeting recently said, “the insistence of their southern counterparts, that presidency must shift to the south, contradicts the provisions of the constitution”.
Addressing newsmen at the Port Harcourt International Airport shortly after returning from Abuja, the Secretary General of RSEYLC, Comrade Tobin James, while nothing that Rivers youths are behind the position of the southern governors, said in line with the principle of federal character and in the spirit of equity and fairness, the next leader of Nigeria should come from the South.
The youth leader also commended the Governor of Rivers State, Chief Nyesom Wike for his courage, commitment and pro-activeness over his position against the deduction of Value Added Tax (VAT) by the Federal Inland Revenue Service (FIRS).
He said states should be allowed to collect VAT and not the federal government.
