Rivers PDP leader resigns, alleges neglect of his community by Wike

By: Emmanuel Nlewedum

A chieftain of People’s Democratic Party PDP, in Rundele Ward 7 in Emohua local government area of Rivers State, Chief Azubuike Odum has resigned his membership of the party.

Odum, a former minority leader of the Rivers State House of Assembly in a telephone interview with PHSPECTATOR sighted underdevelopment and total neglect of his community, Rundele by the Governor Nyesom Wike led Rivers State government as reason for his resignation.

The former Caretaker Committee Chairman of Emohua council expressed disappointment over the deplorable state of the only access road to his community.

He also regretted that all  electioneering campaign promises made to Rundele people by Governor Wike and the PDP have not been fulfilled six years after.

He said: “I have resigned as a PDP member and that’s because the party does not reward hard work.

“I feel ashamed to remain a leader in my Rundele Ward 7 of Emohua local government area and see the major road in my community become badly dilapidated since 2015 without attention despite the Governor’s promise to reconstruct the road in 2015. But roads in other neighbouring communities have been awarded and concluded.

The PDP chieftain further decried that, “There is poverty among members of the party in my ward (Rundele) and there is no means to help them despite that the party they worked for and supported is in power”.

Odum however thanked Governor Wike and the EMOLGA PDP Caucus for the opportunity given to him to serve in his capacities while with the party.

Meanwhile, Chairman of the People’s Democratic Party in Rundele Ward 7, Vincent Wuzor has faulted Odum’s claim that PDP members in the ward have not benefited anything from the party.

He said, “I received his resignation letter from the party on Monday, but his claims that Rundele Ward 7  has not benefited anything from the Governor Nyesom Wike led PDP is not true.

“Azubuike Odum is one of major beneficiaries of the party in Ward 7. He came in to PDP from APC and was given a contract at old GRA by the Wike’s government. After that, he was appointed Caretaker Committee Chairman of Emohua local government council for three months.

Wuzor however, described Odum’s resignation from the party as inconsequential, stressing that “he is going alone and his departure would not affect the party in anyway”.
