Outgoing Military Hospital Director charges successor on workers’ welfare

The outgoing Acting Director of the Military Hospital Port Harcourt, Colonel Andrew Aloku has advised the next leadership after him to improve assets and welfare of officers and workers at the hospital.

Col. Aloku gave the advice while addressing journalists during a brief send-off ceremony organized in his honour at the Military Hospital on Friday.

Aloku, who joined the Nigeria Military in 1999 and assumed the post of the Acting Director of the Military Hospital Port Harcourt on March 14, 2019, will officially handover to his successor, Col. I.J. Akunne on Monday May 9, 2022 as he embark on retirement.

The Delta State-born Dentist Surgeon, expressed satisfaction on his numerous achievements in the past three years of service at the hospital, adding that he is leaving the military fulfilled and satisfied.

“Am happy and I thank God because am leaving with good health, with all parts of my body complete.

“I appreciate the Army for the opportunity given me to serve, especially bringing me here as the Acting Director of the Military Hospital Port Harcourt. It has been a successful service in the past three years and few months I assumed office here.

“I met the hospital in a very bad state. I didn’t know when tears came out of my eyes when I went to one of the wards,  I couldn’t enter the patient’s toilet.

“But I thank God the Chief of Army Staff was very impressed with numerous achievements I have made here together with the management team. We did not get money from anywhere to achieve all these, they were done from the internally generated revenue.

“I think I will be leaving a very big shoe behind for my successor, but I advice him to ensure the infrastructural development here is sustained and those already put in place maintained to be attractive.

Aloku also advised the next Acting Director of the Hospital to always implement policies that are favorable to the organization especially the welfare of of the staff.

“I also advise him to take the welfare of the officers here and the workers serious. Apart from the infrastructural development, I ensured that their welfare are given prior attention.

“For me the biggest achievement was our modernization efforts and improved welfare of the workers here” he added.
