Police officer jumps into compound, kills banker in Rivers

A police officer attached to the Rivers State Police Command has reportedly shot dead one 47-year-old Nwordu Wisdom Chima in his home in Obio-Akpor Local Government Area of the state.

Mr Wordu, a banker with the United Bank of Africa, UBA was killed by the police officer simply identified as Peter at his residence 67 Akpa Anaka Kinika Road, Egbelu in Obio/Akpor LGA in the state.

Younger  brother of the deceased, Fortune Nwordu told our source that the incident occurred on Wednesday, the 11th of May at about 3:00 am.

He said the police officer who hails from Taraba State was providing security for a private school in the area called Early Grip School which shares fence with the deceased home.

According to him, the officer jumped into the deceased compound to rob him. He added that when the deceased heard a noise within the compound, he called operatives of a local vigilante outfit OSPAC.

He said further that when the OSPAC operative came, the deceased opened the gate for him.

“The OSPAC operative now told my brother to follow one side of the compound while he follows the other side to ascertain what was the cause of the noise. It was while my brother was doing as instructed that the police officer shot him and he died instantly.

“He was arrested by OSPAC personnel and handed over to the police. My older brother’s wife just put to bed two weeks ago. He has four young children.

“We want justice to be served. This particular matter must not be swept under the carpet”

Meanwhile, the state police command was yet to react to the incident at the time of this report.
