Gborogbosi condoles victims of Port Harcourt stampede

By: Felix Ikpotor

Dr. Leesi Gborogbosi, a governorship hopeful under the platform of the Action Peoples Party (APP) in Rivers State has condoled with families of victims of the Port Harcourt stampede.

He also prayed God to give strength to the people and Government of Rivers State over the incident.

Port Harcourt Spectator reports that a stampede at the Polo Club in Port Harcourt last weekend claimed 31 lives.

Gborogbosi who stated this in a statement, expressed  sadness that, “a well intended Church programme, titled ‘Shop for Free,’ organized by King’s Assembly to help the less privileged get gifts and other food items for free, turned into the unfortunate loss of lives.”

Gborogbosi called on the government and  people of Rivers State to provide support to the victims, and the families who lost their loved ones to cover hospitalisation, financial aids, and educational scholarship for their children.

He advised that in the future, all events with large crowds should have well trained personnel in event management, crowd management, and emergency first aid on ground.

The Ogoni-born business tycoon/politician threw his weight behind the State  Government’s decision to constitute a probe panel to investigate the cause of the stampede.
