10,000 jobs: Reject Wike’s ‘Greek gift’, group tell Rivers youths

By: Felix Ikpotor

Following the announcement of 10,000 employments for Rivers people and promotion of civil servants in the state by Governor Nyesom Wike, the South South Youth Initiative (SSYI) has called on Rivers people to reject the offer by the governor.

Briefing newsmen in Port Harcourt, President-General of SSYI, Comrade Saviour Imeabe Oscar described the offer by the governor as a Greek gift and as such should be discarded.

He said the offer is a ploy by the governor to buy back Rivers people after almost eight years of neglect and to foist his preferred governorship candidate, Sim Fubara on electorates in the state.

The group said Wike has demonstrated that he does not love the people and urged Rivers youths and job seekers not to fall for this gimmicks by the governor.

“Governor Nyesom Wike does not have Rivers people at heart. He has also confirmed what we envisaged initially that the governor was going to do this just to score  cheap political point.

“We are calling on Rivers youths, our mothers and fathers, our pensioners, civil servants, students in our tertiary institutions our undergraduates and well meaning youths to please reject this offer because we are sure that the next governor would do better than Wike and his boys”.

“We are very sure that this whole antics is just to play into the heart of the people because he knows that he has been rejected and his candidate, Sim Fubara is not accepted by Rivers people. This is just a way of him trying to sell his boy, Sim Fubara that is not sellable”.

SSYI wondered why the governor was rushing to make last minute employment and promotion after several failed promises and refusal to promote civil servants since he assumed office in 2015.

“Why now? Why is the governor offering a state he claims to love a Greek gift? Is it today that the governor is realising that the state civil servants have worked under him for almost eight years without promotion? Why is all these coming  few days to the governorship election?

Thr group added: “These has all exposed the fact that Wike only engage in acts that would make him score cheap political points, but not at this time because the consciousness for a better Rivers State has taken over the citizens”

“For a governor who abandoned the workers and even the state secretariat since 2015 to come out now because he wants his boy to represent him in his third term bid is the highest display of indecency and we condemn this failed attempt by Governor Nyesom Wike to cow Rivers people into voting for his stooge in the forthcoming election”.
