We’ll stop at nothing in developing Gokana, Dumiye vows

…Promises to partner Ogoni media workers

Chairman of Gokana local government area in Rivers State, Monday Dumiye has assured of his commitment towards bettering the fortunes of people of his LGA.
Dumiye gave the assurance when he hosted members of the National Association of Ogoni Media Workers Worldwide, NAOMEW, who were in his office on a familiarisation visit.
The Gokana council boss said he is embarking on infrastructural development and skills acquisition to uplift the council and to give the people alternative source of livelihoods.
“We’ll stop at nothing to better the lots of our people  and we can only do that by improving on the infrastructural development of this council.

“During our electioneering campaigns, we promised our people that we are going to provide alternative source of livelihoods through skill acquisition and we are working seriously on that promise and at the end of the skills we are going to give them starter packs and that is one source of human capital development we are looking at,” he stated.
Dumiye added: “You can also achieve human capacity development through robust educational policy and that’s why we are renovating most of our primary schools so that atleast at the foundational level, we can get our children involved in the development of our Council”.
The Council chairman who took the media workers through a tour of sites of ongoing  projects in the council, said he is also rebuilding the security architecture of the LGA through provision of better accommodation for security agencies working there.
“We went to the facility  opposite the police station and you see the  offices of Nigerian Immigration Service and Nigeria Civil Defence Corps was in a very bad state and for us to strengthen the security architecture, we are renovating it and doing a lot of work to better the lots of our people because the lives we can touch and the dividends of democracy we can bring in is what that’s important,” he stated.
In the area of sports, the council chairman assured that after the ongoing Gokana Unity Cup, the now defunct Gokana United Football Club which participated in the Nigerian National Nationwide League would be resurcitated.
He assured that he was going to partner the media workers to help disseminate information about developments in the council.
Earlier, President of NAOMEW, Martins Giadom had informed the council boss that the body was in his office to familiarise with him and to seek ways of partnering the council in setting the agenda for development.
He informed the council chairman that the organisation is made up of different categories of professionals in the media and better positioned to project developments in the council.
