Chairman of Gokana Local Government Council, Monday Dumiye, has paid glowing tribute to the gallantry and unwavering patriotism of legionnaires and fallen heroes who fought selflessly for the peace, unity, and stability of Nigeria.
The Council chairman who spoke during a church service to commemorate the 2025 Armed Forces Remembrance Day at Saint Anthony’s Catholic Church Nweol Gokana, expressed deep appreciation for their sacrifices in safeguarding the sovereignty of the nation and protecting its citizens from threats both within and outside.
He said: “Our fallen heroes and gallant legionnaires exemplify courage, selflessness, and an extraordinary dedication to duty.
“Their sacrifices are a reminder of the immense price we owe for the peace we enjoy today and the responsibility we have to preserve it for future generations.
“On behalf of the good people of Gokana, I salute their bravery and pledge our unwavering support to their families and to the welfare of our veterans”.
While emphasising the importance of remembering the sacrifices of these heroes not just on Armed Forces Remembrance Day, but throughout the year, the Gokana chairman used the medium to call on all Nigerians to live in unity and peace as a tribute to the ideals for which the fallen heroes fought and died.
He reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to ensuring the well-being of veterans, the widows and families of the fallen, promising to continue initiate programmes and activities that enhances their welfare.
Dumiye also stressed the need for collective efforts to support the Armed Forces in their ongoing mission to secure the nation’s territory.
