The Rivers State Government has urged film producers, directors and script writers in the State to use their platforms to promote the cultural heritage of the State.
The Secretary to the State Government, Dr. Benibo Anabraba, emphasized this today when he received a delegation from the Rivers International Film Festival in Port Harcourt.
Dr. Anabraba disclosed that Governor Siminalayi Fubara appreciates the immense socio-cultural and economic benefit of tourism, hence the decision to embark on a Public Private Partnership (PPP) to rehabilitate, develop and rebrand the Port Harcourt Tourist Beach, Borokiri.
”The Rivers State Government is proud and appreciates all that you have done in putting Rivers State on the map in film making and the arts.
”We are also aware of the fact that tourism is all encompassing. It can improve the economy, add value to social and cultural life, and also create employment for our youths.
“Just some days ago, His Excellency also inspected the Ngo-Atlantic- Oyorokoto Road area, which is a vast shoreline that the government is assiduously working on to provide infrastructure with the vision of creating a hub for investors and investments in furtherance to harnessing the limitless values of the blue economy. If you check online, you will see that people have posted videos of the sighting of elephants and other exotic animals around that area. We’re also planning on creating conservation parks in these prestine environment for the protection of nature and entertainment.
“As filmmakers, I know that one of the beauties of a film is its scenery. I believe that the Oyorokoto area offer such picturesque, and you can help us bring it to limelight.
“We encourage you to use your films to portray the culture of our people, because at the end of the day, these films will serve as archives that can be assessed by future generations to teach and give them an idea of where they are coming from. Be assured that we will work with you to preserve our history and culture.
”On behalf of His Excellency, I thank you for creating a platform that enables collaboration and promotes cross fertilization of culture across the African continent, with the ability to change the narrative on its people before the World”, he stated.
While acknowledging the appreciation of the delegates from Zimbabwe and Ghana for the hospitality and security enjoyed within their short stay in Rivers State, the Secretary to the State Government extended the warm regards of the State Government and encouraged them to see and make Rivers State their home at all times.
The Team lead of Rivers International Film Festival, Lady Kate Ezeigbo, thanked the Governor for his consistent support as she informed that the 2025 festival held from October 30 to November 2, 2025 in which 272 films auditioned from different countries.
She maintained that the festival was organized to add value in the film industry, celebrate creativity and grant empowerment.
She said, “Since inception the Rivers International Film Festival has created a platform for producers, actors, directors, students and industry professionals to connect learn and celebrate artistry”
Film producers from the Zimbabwean National Army were also part of the delegation.
