Niger Delta Ethnic Nationalities Youth Leaders Forum (NDENYLF) have congratulated the newly appointed Inspector General of Police, IGP, Olatunji Disu, saying his appointment marks a turning point in the nation’s security architecture.
NDENYLF in a statement by its spokesman, Engr Legborsi Yamaabana said the appointment reflects Disu’s professionalism commitment to service to the nation.
He said Disu understands the complexities of modern policing and the Nigerian security system.
”Over the years, he has demonstrated uncommon courage, strategic intelligence, and a deep commitment to justice and national security. His track record reflects a leader who understands both the complexities of modern policing and the urgent need for reforms rooted in integrity, accountability, and community partnership.
”As a Forum representing the collective voice of youth leaders across the diverse ethnic nationalities of the Niger Delta region, we view this appointment as a significant step toward strengthening public trust in law enforcement and consolidating peace across the federation, ” he said.
The forum expressed the hope that Disu’s leadership of the Nigerian Police Force would promote respect for human rights across the nation.
”The Niger Delta, with its strategic importance to national development, requires a policing architecture that is proactive, people-centered, and responsive to the unique socio-economic realities of the region. We are confident that under IGP Disu’s leadership, the Nigeria Police Force will advance innovative strategies that promote security while respecting human rights and civil liberties,” he added.
The youth leader’s body particularly commend his reputation for discipline, operational excellence, and community engagement, saying “These qualities inspire confidence that his tenure will usher in a new era of professionalism, intelligence-driven policing, and strengthened collaboration between security agencies and local communities”.
The group expressed its readiness to work closely with the new IGP to promote peace, security, and youth inclusion as it believes that sustainable security can only be achieved through partnership.
He emphasized that the Forum remains committed to supporting initiatives that foster dialogue, reduce crime, curb youth restiveness, and enhance socio-economic stability across the Niger Delta and beyond.
NDENYLF urged the new IGP to continue prioritizing reforms that enhance transparency, boost morale within the force, and deepen community trust.
