
Journalists in the Niger Delta region has been advised to be more thorough, proactive and do more of investigative journalism order to save the region and Nigerian by extension from the hands corrupt political leaders.
The Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of Meridian hospital, Dr. Iyke Odo gave this advise when members of Niger Delta Media Practitioners of Nigeria NDMPN paid him a working visited with the recognition of his Hospital as the Most Distinguished corporate Organization in health and allied services.
Dr. Odo emphasized that Niger Delta region has suffered protracted neglect and untold hardship from leaders of the Country not minding that the region contributes seventy-five percentage of the gross national earnings of the country as most of the oil producing communities are leaving bellow poverty line yet successive administration keep giving them unfulfilled hope and promises.
He called on the media to take it’s rightful place to confront and asked questions where necessary, nothing that continuing in the fear will not solve the problems but will escalate the negative challenges and the leaders will continue to govern with impunity. He recalled that it was when some group of young agitators under the egies Movement for the Emancipation of Niger Delta region MEND rose up against the ill treatment of the region gave rise to their recognition.
The Meridian MD/CEO however commended the media practitioners in their little contributions in donation of learning aids to schools which according to him also serve as pointer to the students community, adding that it’s better than nothing and promised that the management of his hospital will partner NDMPN on their next phase of their corporate social responsibility projects.
Earlier in his speech, Convener of Niger Delta Media Practitioners of Nigeria NDMPN Amb. Joseph Asomeji explained that they were at his office in fulfilment of the report of the assessment team of their group in respect to quality service delivery at the hospital.
The convener who commended the management of the hospital on their achievements including expanding the hospital to several cities in the Country to meet the health challenges of Nigerians whose hope on federal health institution has failed, saying that investigation review that the hospital is making great impact hence their visit to encourage them to continue to remain on the speed lane.
Amb. Asomeji however reviewed that NDMPN is an association practicing Journalists from Niger Delta region with intent of using their pen to bring to the front burner issues affecting the development of the region, adding that they have made impact in some areas, particularly on the donation and distributions of learning aids as well as hospital consumables, hence their appeal for the sponsorship of the next phase of their corporate social responsibility projects of donation of learning aids at Model Girls Government Secondary School, Orominoeke D-line in Port Harcourt on Monday 1st June 2026.
