LASU sanctions 84 students over indecent dressing

Management of the Lagos State University (LASU) has issued warning letters to 84 students for indecent dressing while a student who was among the candidate who was to contest in the forthcoming student union election was disqualified.

The decision was contained in a statement from the Centre for Information, Press and Public Relations, CIPPR, of the school.

A breakdown analysis of the sanctioned students shows that, eight are final year students,43 in 100level, 20 in 200 level, and three in 300level.

A further analysis showed that 24 students are in faculty of Management Science, 18 from faculty of sciences, faculty of Education and Social Sciences were recorded as 11 students each and the faculty of communication has four students.

Students Affair Department (DSA) of LASU we learnt gave the letter to the students for going against the dress code of the institution.

We learnt also a student who was to contest for the presidential post of the Lagos State University Student Union (LASUSU) was disqualified.

The student who is a 300Level Economic Education Department, Yusuf Wasiu Omolola a presidential candidate was disqualified for allegedly concealing his suspension at the Federal College of Education, Akoka, as it was alleged that the candidate was suspended from the college for participating in cultism in the year 2012.

“There was no documentary evidence to prove he has been cleared of his allegation and suspension from the college”.

‘’The students have been magnanimously pardoned by the university authority and were warned to desist from the act of indecent dressing, henceforth or face disciplinary action, Centre for Information, Press and Public Relations (CIPPR) statement noted’’.

The statement said he was given the opportunity to free himself.

‘’Mr. Yusuf, Wasiu Omotola was given several opportunities to redeem himself by voluntarily and honourably opting out of the LASUSU presidential race.

It was also recorded that he refused to complete the security background form made for all the LASUSU contestants, the Director Student Affairs DSA said.

The presidential contestant (Yusuf) remains disqualified pending when he can provide evidence that the allegation against him is no true,” the statement posited.
