As the ember months begin, the Federal Road Safety Corp (FRSC) has retrained no fewer than 2,000 drivers of one of the leading road transport company in the country, Peace Mass Transit,(PMT) at its Academy in Udi, Enugu State.
The training lasted for one month and with the issuance of re-certification certificates to the drivers.
Corp Marshal, FRSC, Boboye Oyeyemi, while speaking at the event, apologized to the management of PMT over a misleading report credited to the Corp which inflated the number of casualties involved in an auto crash with company buses in June 2015.
Oyeyemi also warned motorists, especially commercial drivers, that it will enforce the installation of Speed Limiters and quality tyres as a safety measure to reduce road crashes during the festive period.
Addressing the drivers, the Corp Marshal said, “As we are entering the ember months where we usually experience increase in traffic, we will be ruthless in enforcements.
“This enforcement is especially on the area of Speed Limiters and quality tyres. We will impound any vehicle especially commercial ones found operating under these conditions. Studies have shown that sixty-five percent of road crashes are caused by commercial vehicles. There will be zero tolerance on enforcement to reduce the rate of accidents on the nation’s roads.
Continuing, the FRSC boss said, “I want to seize this opportunity to apologize to the management of PMT on the misleading report which emanated from us, indicating that 44 passengers died in an auto crash involving PMT vehicles last June. The publication is highly regretted and i have queried the officers involved in the inflation of the figures.
“I equally ordered a rejoinder and as a responsible organization, we accept our mistake where it has been proven
