I am worth the amount DSS found in my house-Justice Inyang

One of the Supreme Court Justices arrested by operatives of the Department of State Services, DSS, Justice John Inyang Okoro, has written to the Chief Justice of Nigeria, Justice Mahmud Mohammed, insisting that he never received any bribe.

Inyang said the money recovered from his home was duly earned.

Inyang who, In a letter to the CJN dated 12 October, 2016 and titled, ‘Invasion of my official Residence by Operatives of the Department of State Security Services’, explained how he came about $38, 800 USD and N3.5 Million recovered from his house.

In the letter, Inyang, who also faulted the DSS for asking him questions about non-existent houses across the country, as well as doubting the age of his children, also said that out of the $38, 800 USD and N3.5 Million, the sum of $24, 000 USD and #10, 000 were his annual medical / vacation allowances for the past three years.

He also said that he did not spend more than $5, 000 on each of the three trips he had so far made abroad.

Inyang said that he was entitled to have more than the amount recovered from him by the DSS, adding that the recovered money was the balance of the estacode he received from the Supreme Court for the past three years.

This, according to him, was different from the estcodes he received for international Conferences he had so far attended since joining the apex court.

“The DSS has not confronted me with any petition or complaint from any quarters whatsoever. Rather, they have grilled me, asking questions on some none existing properties around the country.

“They have also doubted the age of my children alleging that they are toddlers. This is sad and unbelievable”, Inyang said.
