Rivers rerun: Abe commends NASS over ultimatum to INEC

…charges Wike to provide conducive atmosphere for election

Senator Magnus Ngei Abe, All Progressives Congress (APC) candidate for Rivers South East Senatorial District in the legislative re-run elections has commended the National Assembly for its decision to mandate the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to conclude all re-run elections in the country particularly in Rivers State.

In a statement issued in Port Harcourt and signed by his Spokesman, Mr. Parry Saroh Benson, said the directive on INEC by the National Assembly was expedient as the legislative duration of the positions have almost been halved as a result of the delay.

Abe said the postponement of the elections did not serve the interest of Rivers People.

He said though he would not speak for INEC, the reason the election was delayed by INEC might not be unconnected to incessant threats to the lives of INEC officials by the governor of Rivers State.

Abe urged the governor to provide a convivial environment for the election to hold.
He, therefore, appealed to INEC to expeditiously conduct the elections as the body language of Wike now suggests his willingness to cooperate with INEC.

Abe stated that on his part, he was prepared to cooperate with INEC and other stakeholders to have a peaceful, free and fair election.

The former Secretary to Rivers State Government reiterated his philosophy of non-violence in elections as exemplified in his various campaigns that youths should be dissuaded from violence and rather embrace education.
