BREAKING: Two killed in Maiduguri bomb explosion

… As police kill three suspected female bombers kill

Reports say a bomb explosion has claimed two lives in Maiduguri, Borno State this morning.

The Improvised Explosive Device, IED, went off behind the Maimalari Barracks in Maiduguri, the state capital.

A soldier who wished not to be named confirmed the attack , adding that two were killed in the explosion suspected to have been carried out by the degraded Boko Haram insurgents.?

However, the Army is yet to release an official statement on the attack.

When contacted, the Army Spokesman, Sani Usman, said he has not been briefed, adding that he will get back to our reporter with details.

”I’m currently not aware of such incident, but when I get any information, I will get back to you,” Sani said.

Meanwhile, the Borno Police Command has said that  three suspected female suicide bombers were shot dead by security agents after they tried to gain entry into Maiduguri to cause havoc.

In a statement by Mr. Victor Isuku, the spokesman of the command, said that the bombers were strapped with Improved Explosive Device on their bodies.

 “This morning at about 05:30hrs , three female suicide bombers with IED strapped to their bodies were sighted by military patrol team in Umarari village along Maiduguri/Damboa road near Mulai. They were moving towards Maiduguri,” he said.

Isuku added, “They were promptly gun down and the IED on two of them exploded killing all three of them”.

He said that the police bomb disposal unit was mobilized to the scene immediately.

“The unexploded IED on the third was rendered safe and detonated by Police Bomb Disposal Unit who promptly mobilized to the scene,” Isuku said.
