Police kills father of 3 in Kaduna

Reports say a trigger-happy police officer has killed a commercial bus driver, identified as Saminu Bara’u, in Kaduna State.

The deceased, fondly called Danlami was allegedly shot dead in front of his house by a police operative in the Maraban Jos area of the state at about 8pm on Tuesday.

A human right activist, Mohammed Grema Adamu, on his Facebook page, shared the information, saying the father of 3, who was battling a fractured leg, was sitting outside his residence when a team of policemen on patrol stormed the area.

As he could hardly walk without being aided, Bara’u didn’t make a move on sighting the policemen, so, one of the officers, nicknamed ‘Kura’ ordered him to stand up and run or he shoots him.

Bara’u was said to have replied, saying he could not run due to his fractured leg.

As he responded to the officer, he displayed his crutches.

Angered by his response, ‘Kura’ pointed his gun at him and pulled the trigger.

At the sound of the shot, an irate mob converged and attacked the officer.

But for the intervention of elders and a human right activist (name withheld), ‘Kura’ would have been lynched.

Meanwhile, the police in the state is yet to comment on the matter at press time.
