First City Monument Bank, FCMB, on Wednesday charged journalists on the need to promote good governance and national cohesion through in Nigeria.
FCMB’s Regional Head in South-East and South-South, Mr. Okey Ogelle gave the charge at a one-day media parley titled; “Achieving National Cohesion and Security Through Positive Reporting: Role of Media”, in Port Harcourt.
Mr. Ogelle appealed to journalists to always project the country’s image and values in their reportage.
He also described the media as partners in progress as the bank has enjoyed a smooth working relationship with the press since its inception.
Earlier in his remark, the banks’ Group Head, Corporate Affairs, Mr. Diran Olojo said the meeting was meant to equip media practitioners with the needed knowledge and to recognize it’s role in achieving national cohesion and addressing security and other challenges facing the country.
He said that the expected outcome of the programme was to see the media publishing accurate reports on policies in the country.
Speaking on the theme, a resource person, Mr. Idoreyeng Enang said the Nigeria’s populace is tired of the negative stories making the headlines daily, adding that there is need for a shift.
He said the journalist has a greater role to play to fostering national cohesion and good governance as it’s the link between the people and the government.
