Group urges military to stop harassing Ogoni

The Council of Ogoni Professionals (COP International USA) condemn in unmistakable terms, the military attacks on Chief Solomon Ndigbara and his family by men of the Nigerian Army as reported in various Nigeria news outlets recently.
The condemnation was contained in a press statement made available to newsmen in and signed on its behalf by one Anslem D John-Miller.
According to the statement, “We view these unprovoked attacks against Solomon Ndigbara and members of his family as a violation of their fundamental human rights. We therefore call on the military authorities to stop the ongoing military sponsored terrorism in Ogoniland with immediate effect”.
The umbrella body of all Ogoni Professionals in America also call on President Mohammadu Buhari to stop the planned establishment of a “mini-military camp” in Kpite Tai or in any part of Ogoni because there is no acts of terrorism going on in the area that warrants such deployments.
The body stated that the latest military onslaught on the Ogonis reminds it of the activities of the notorious Major Paul Okuntimo and the Rivers State Internal Security Taskforce, the Giokoo killings and the hangings of Ken Saro-Wiwa and others on November 10, 1995, adding that the impact of that saga remains fresh in their memory and will not fold our arms and allow a repeat of such.
While calling on President Buhari and the Nigerian military authorities to investigate the recent military atrocities committed in Ogoni and bring the perpetrators to justice, the group warn that if no action is taken to address the problem, they will not hesitate to file a petition against the culprits in the International Criminal Court (ICC).
