Face your attackers, Abe tell supporters

By Felix Ikpotor

As a result of the threats and alleged killing of members of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Rivers State by thugs alleged to be loyal to rival political parties in Rivers State, the senatorial candidate of the APC in the Rivers South East rerun elections, Magnus Ngei Abe has called on his supporters to resist and protect themselves against any further intimidation and killings.

Abe who stated this while briefing journalists in Port Harcourt said his supporters can no longer fold their arms to intimidations and killings by others, adding that from henceforth any attack on his supporters would be firmly resisted.

“I have decided to call on all my supporters all over Rivers South East, all members of the All Progressives Congress to take any steps that are necessary to protect themselves and the properties and lives of our members. Any where any member of the All Progressives Congress is harassed there will be a response. Any where from today that any member of the APC is killed there will be a response. Any where as from today where anybody who fires at members of the APC in my senatorial district there will be a response. Anybody who has two heads should bring out his second head to do whatever he wants to do within the senatorial districts that will affect the lives or threaten the lives of members of the APC. We will no longer tolerate it” he said.

He lambasted the security agents for not taking enough steps to protect members of the area and for not dealing with all those who perpetrated violence during the elections.

He alleged that all those who were caught with arms and fake police uniforms have all been released without proper prosecution.

Abe’s outburst we learnt may not be unconnected with the alleged disruption of the elections in Gokana by thugs who shot sporadically and scared away voters during the last Saturday rerun elections in the area leading to the cancellation of the elections.

It could be recalled that Abe had had previously complained about the killing and harassment of his supporters by thugs loyal to other parties in the area.

Before now, Abe had called on security agencies to investigate the actions of the Secretary to the State Government, Kenneth Kobani he said led to the disruption of the distribution of materials for the elections.

It would be recalled that Kobani was arrested on Saturday at Kpor headquarters of Gokana by security agents disrupting the botched election.
