80 year old pensioner slumps and die over omission of his name from payroll

An 80-year-old pensioner identified as Kusuku Martins has reportedly slumped and died in Jalingo, the Taraba State capital when he learnt that his name was omitted from the state government’s pension payroll.

The incident we learnt occurred last Thursday around 4:00pm on Barde Way, near Government House Junction as the late Martins came from Gembu, Mambilla Plateau to the state capital to process his pension at the state pension board.

We gathered he has not received his pension for the last two months.

The man went to the board to complain of the non-payment of his pension but only to discover that his name has been omitted on this month’s payroll.

Thereafter, he went to the state office of the Nigeria Union of Pensioners to lodge a complaint. But as he came out of the union office, Martins suddenly collapsed and died instantly by the roadside. Hassan Abubakar, the state Chairman of the Nigeria Union of Pensioners, confirmed the incident and described it as pathetic and terrible.
