Despite claims by the Rivers State government that it is not owing workers, aides to lawmakers in the state assembly yesterday, protested over the refusal of the Rivers State House of Assembly Service Commission to pay their salaries for almost one year now.
The protested while speaking with journalist in Port Harcourt said the situation has become unbearable as nobody is willing to address their plight.
Leader of the protesting assembly aides, Christian Amanze said: “ for one year now we have not been paid our salaries, we have met the speaker, the assembly service commission yet no response”.
Others said they can no longer feed or even pay their children school fee.
While appealing to the state governor, Nyesom Wike to intervene, they maintained that they all worked for the enthronement of PDP government in the state and as such don’t deserve such a treatment.
At the time of this report, the assembly is yet to respond to the issues raised by the protesters.
