Gunmen kill Ortom’s security aide

Gunmen in Makurdi today killed Mr Denen Igbana, the Senior Special Assistant on Security to Governor Samuel Ortom of Benue.

According to the News Agency of Nigeria reports that Igbana was killed in the early hours of today at his Tionsha residence.

Speaking during a sympathy visit to the deceased family, Ortom vowed that Igbana’s killers would never go unpunished.

He ordered immediate investigation into the killing, threatening that anybody implicated in the act would not be spared.

He described the deceased as one of his most trusted and dependable aides.

Ortom disclosed that the late Igbana had intimated him of threats to his life and requested for funds to carry out perimeter fencing of his house.

He noted that Igbana was instrumental to the sustenance of the amnesty programme in the state .

On his part, the Commissioner of Police in the state, Mr Paul Yakadi, said the police have already started investigation to fish out the killers.

Leader Tionsha Community, Mr Thomas Ayakpam, said the community was awakened at about 2:30am by gunshots.

He said that after the gunshots went down, he heard the deceased pleading with his assailants to spare his life.

I heard him say, “So, Ghana, after all that we have done together, you can look me in the face and kill me in this manner” Ayakpan said.
