Nigeria climb six places in latest FIFA rankings

The Nigerian national football team have moved up six places in the latest FIFA rankings released by the world football governing body on Thursday.

The Super Eagles, who were ranked 67th in May, are now 61st position in the world, but still remain 12th placed team in Africa.

Nigeria’s back-to-back victories in recent friendly games against Mali and Luxembourg no doubt may have earned them their recent promotion.

Algeria remains highest ranked team in Africa while Argentina is the number team in the world.

Cote d’ivoire, Ghana, Senegal, Egypt, Tunisia, Cape Verde Island, Congo DR, Guinea, Cameroon, Congo make up the top 10 teams on the continent.

In all, 45 international friendlies were included in calculating the latest ranking, along with four 2018 FIFA World Cup qualification matches for the OFC region.
