…As lawmaker calls for calm

The Movement for the Survival of the Ogoni People (MOSOP) has expressed displeasure at the recent attacks and wanton destruction of lives and properties in Kporghor community in Tai local government area of Rivers State by the neighboring Wakama community in Ogu-Bolo local government area.

MOSOP in a statement by its Publicity Secretary, Feghalo Nsuke said it is saddened that despite repeated notifications to the government to take adequate steps to protect the people of Kporghor and other communities which have come under attack from their neighbors, the government appears to have been insensitive to this issue and failing in its responsibility to protect the lives of its citizens.

Nsuke further alleged that already, the people of Kporghor have been driven out of their homes while seven persons have been confirmed dead and all homes in the community including schools and worship centers destroyed.

The body urged the Rivers State Governor, Nyesom Wike and the security agencies to take urgent steps to restore normalcy in these Ogoni communities including Ekporo in Eleme Local Government Area and to ensure the security of other Ogoni communities which have come under attack from their neighbors

Meanwhile, the lawmaker representing Ogu/Bolo Constituency in the Rivers State House of Assembly (RVHA), Evans Bipi have called for calm among the warring the communities.

The lawmaker who stated this as a result of the renewed war between the two communities said already the state government is working on modalities aimed at resolving the dispute.
