NIMASA boss pledges support for AMJON

The Director General of the Nigerian Maritime Administration and Safety Agency (NIMASA), Dr Dakuku Peterside, has pledge his support to the Association of Maritime Journalists of Nigeria (AMJON).

Dakuku made the pledge when the executives and BoT members of the association paid him a courtesy visit in his office in Lagos on Wednesday.

He promised to convene the message of the association to the Minister of Transportation, Rotimi Amaechi, of a successful merger of all maritime journalists except for some few who felt uncomfortable with the merger.

He acknowledged that the maritime journalists are critical to the realization of his agenda for revamping the maritime sector noting that the media will always be part of its success story.

Dakuku said the agency would continue to advocate for unity among maritime journalists as he believed that the industry will achieve more if the maritime media speaks with one voice.

President of AMJON, Ismail Aniemu, had earlier told the NIMASA top shot that the association is a fallout of an advise by the transport minister that all maritime journalists associations should fuse into one to strong body like the Sports Writers Association of Nigeria (SWAN).

He expressed the hope that this move would engender better working relationship between the media and the maritime industry.

He made reference to other associations in the country which are under one umbrella and wondered that it’s only in maritime sector that we have diverse groups.

The DG of NIMASA, Dakuku Peterside was joined by two of his executive directors and Head of Corporate Communications, Hajia Lami Tumaka; while AMJON President, Ismail Aniemu was accompanied by amongst others, the BoT Chairman, Asu Beks and executive members of the association.
